Martha's Vineyard

La Dallman Architects designed an addition to a private residence in Martha’s Vineyard. Consisting of a modest program of home office space and an additional bedroom, the design engages the vernacular shingle tradition, yet simultaneously subverts it through subtle sectional shifts that amplify the connection of the building to its site. The seemingly normative forms belie an active modernist sensibility that is tempered by an attention to craft and materiality.
